Editorial systems (content management systems)

Systems, equipment and machines are mostly produced of standard modules or components. Because of this, it is possible and reasonable to modularize related product information in the same way with the preparation of analog information modules. If products are also manufactured in many variants and the product information translated into several languages, the use of an editorial or content management system (CMS) can be rewarding as far as time and costs.

A content management system does not manage documents, but instead individual information modules in XML format – often based on the DITA standard (Darwin Information Typing Architecture). The information modules with descriptions, processes or warnings can be reutilized effectively with this – in all necessary languages.

A content management system thereby supports and controls all phases of information processing – from preparation, management and translation up to the target-oriented publication and archiving of the information products.
