14thTANNER college and university competition kindles a passion for forklifts with partner Jungheinrich

Young talent competition for whizz-kids in technical communication
The registration phase for the 14th TANNER college and university competition has begun and is scheduled to run until 31 January 2020. The partner for this competition is Jungheinrich Service & Parts AG & Co. KG, a subsidiary of Jungheinrich AG. For more than 60 years Hamburg-based Jungheinrich has been one of the world’s leading solution providers for intralogistics. Jungheinrich supports its customers in meeting the challenges of Industry 4.0 by offering a comprehensive portfolio of precisely tailored materials handling equipment, logistics systems and services. In this annual competition students of technical communication already demonstrate their skills and qualifications in teams before completing their studies. This way they also gain valuable experience and make initial contact with industry.

A challenge focused on customer needs
Lifting, stacking, moving or picking: Developing the best intralogistic solutions for every application is Jungheinrich’s declared goal. To achieve this, the company consistently places customers and their needs at the centre of its corporate philosophy and digitisation strategy. This is why the participating university teams are exploring the question of how technical information is used for industrial trucks in the 14th TANNER college and university competition. What motivates the people who operate forklifts, pallet trucks and the like? What information is relevant for them? “They have to know this if our customers are to be able to exploit the full potential of our machines. That’s why our technical editors have to be as familiar with customer needs as they are with our products,” explains Christian Dreyer, Head of Life Cycle Management Service at Jungheinrich. “We are thus hoping for innovative feedback concepts for the different media and channels from the students.” With a focus on the highly topical subject of “user experience”, this task is promising a wide variety of solutions.

Former competition partners have included companies such as Bosch Thermotechnik, Liebherr-Hydraulikbagger GmbH and Lufthansa Technical Training.

2020 awards ceremony
Students have until 15 April 2020 to submit their entries for the challenge set them. In May 2020 the participating teams will present their submissions to an independent judging panel. The winning team of the 14th TANNER college and university competition will receive their awards on the same evening.
